Kickball Rules

KICKBALL RULES

 

I.                   PARK RULES:

1.       No pets are allowed in the park.

2.       NO ALCOHOL may be brought into the complex. Any player caught with a beer can or bottle will be automatically ejected from the game. If cans or bottles are found in the dugout & not claimed, the player/coach will be ejected. Anyone providing alcohol to minors is subject to prosecution and will be suspended from the complex.

3.       There is a $2.00 non-refundable admission charge for adults age 12 and over.

4.       NO REFUNDS FOR RAINOUTS OR EJECTIONS.

5.       Dispose of trash in nearby receptacles and clean dugouts following your game.

6.       Anyone found vandalizing the park or park property would be fully prosecuted and banned from the park.

7.       No tobacco products of any kind allowed on the playing surface.

8.       No profanity

9.       No fighting, throwing kicks or any severe offense, this will result in a team forfeit.

10.    No jewelry of any kind may be worn during the game.

11.    There is a $25.00 Service Charge for all returned checks.

12.    No metal spikes or shoes with screw in cleats allowed due to AstroTurf kicker boxes. Rubber cleats and rubber screw-in cleats are allowed. Metal tips are not.

II.                PARK TEAM/LEAGUE RULES:

 

-FORMAT:

            All leagues will consist of:

            Spring – One game per week on the assigned night for ten weeks.

            Summer – One game per week on the assigned night for ten weeks.

FALL – Two games per week on the assigned night for five weeks.

-SCHEDULES:

Managers will receive their schedules in advance of their first game. Schedules will also be posted online at www.indysportspark.com. ISP will notify team managers in person if there are any changes to schedules besides make-up games. Team managers are responsible for getting make-up game times. Game times are posted on the schedules and on the schedule board. The park will not be responsible for incorrect game times given over the phone. The team manager is responsible for giving game times to team members. ISP reserves the right to change schedules as needed without prior notice. ISP does not accept scheduling requests.

 

            ALL ENTRY FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL PRIOR TO THE FIRST SCHEDULED GAME.

Team listed first on the schedule of a six-team league is home team and official scorekeeper. All other leagues, a coin flip will determine home team. Please pay close attention to start times and field assignments.

-MANAGERS RESPONSIBILITIES:

The team manager should communicate with their team any information reported to them by ISP. The team manager should…

            1. Attend all team meetings

            2. Relay park policies and regulations to team members

            3. Submit completed roster to Park Director

            4. Make roster changes

            5. Distribute awards to team members

-LEAGUE STANDINGS:

League standings will be posted on the Internet at www.indysportspark.com and the standings board at ISP daily. Please report any mistakes to the Park Office immediately.

 

The best win/loss record determines the winner. In case of tie for first place:

            A. Head-to-head competition

            B. Playoff for first if still tied

In case of a tie for second or third place:

            A. Head-to-head competition

            B. Defensive runs scored against you

-AWARDS:

Up to Thirteen (13) awards for signed roster players only will be given to the championship team.

            A. FIRST PLACE TEAM: Individual awards. Additional awards may be purchased.

-RAINOUTS:

Please do not call until 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. Rainout information will be immediately posted on our website at www.indysportspark.com. Rainout information will also be available after the above times at (317) 784-7447. Players should contact their Team Manager for rainout information. We ask that only the Team Manager call the office for rainout information.

 

Rainouts will be rescheduled at the end of the season. If more than one rainout per session, it is possible that the make up with be on a Saturday, without prior notice. ISP reserves the right to reschedule games anytime during the week or on weekends. It is the manager’s responsibility to pick up a revised schedule and distribute it to their players. isp will not reschedule games for any team that CANNOT make it on the make-up date.

 

II. PARTICIPATION RULES:
Managers and players must agree to abide by the rules and regulations of Indianapolis Sports Park as a condition of participation.  Repeated violators will be indefinitely suspended from all participation at ISP.

-INSURANCE:

Players, managers and spectators are NOT protected by medical or liability insurance while on Indianapolis Sports Park property. Players, managers and spectators are encouraged to purchase insurance either independently or through the ASA team insurance plan. Contact ASA or Park Office for insurance details.

ISP is not responsible for any damage to personal property (including vehicles) or for lost or stolen items while at the complex.

-ROSTERS:
Every player participating at Indianapolis Sports Park, including managers and coaches, must completely fill out the roster waiver form. Every player participating at Indianapolis Sports Park, including managers and coaches must agree to and sign the following injury waiver, which appears on the official roster. In addition, any injured player remaining in a game, despite being injured, assumes all liability for any additional injury or damage that may result. 

 

ALL ROSTERS/WAIVERS MUST BE TURNED IN PRIOR TO THE FIRST GAME OR GAME WILL BE RULED A FORFIET.

 

III. PLAYING RULES:

-ASA GOVERNING RULES:

All league games will be played under ASA rules except those amended in the Park Rules and Regulations or by notice of the Park Director.

-WARM-UP AREA:

All teams should warm-up in the designated areas.

-WARM-UP PITCHES:

  1. When the pitcher takes the pitching rubber for the first inning, he/she will be allowed three (3) warm up pitchers.
  2. After the first inning, the pitcher is permitted only one warm-up pitch between innings, unless a new pitcher is starting the inning.
  3. Throwing the ball around by infield or outfield players while the pitcher warms up IS NOT ALLOWED, after the first inning.  This means warm-up only. The ball may still be thrown around after outs have been made.

-EXTRA PLAYER:

As rules state, an extra player is permitted at the manager’s option at the start of the game. The kicking order must remain constant. However, a men’s line up of eleven players or a coed team of twelve can take the ten defensive positions throughout the game. A team using the EP must finish the game with ten players. If a player leaves the game and no substitutes are available, an out will be recorded each time that player’s position in the kicking order comes up. Remember, this is an appeal play by the defensive team. The defense must inform the umpire each time the kicking position comes up.

  1. An extra player may be used by a team provided it is made know to the umpire prior to the start of the game an his name and uniform number is indicated on the lineup sheet.
  2. The EP must remain in the same position in the kicking order for the entire game.
  3. The EP may play defense at any time without his status being affected. He may go in and out of the defensive lineup as often as needed as long as his position in the official kicking order is not altered.
  4. The EP may be substituted for at any time with the substitute becoming the new EP. The substitute must be a player who has not been in the game.

-SUBSTITUTIONS:
All substitutions must be reported to the umpire.  Failure to report substitution to the umpire will result in the ejection of the illegal player, when brought to the attention of the umpire by the opposing manager.

-RE-ENTRY RULE:
Any of the starting players may withdraw and re-enter once, providing he/she occupies the same place in the kicking order.  A substitute who is withdrawn may not re-enter.  All substitutions must be reported to the umpire.

-GRACE PERIOD:

If a team does not have the minimum number of (8) eight players at game time the opposing team manager may:

            A. Accept a forfeit at game time.

            B. Allow opposing team 10 (ten) minutes from schedule game time to reach minimum number of players or game is ruled a forfeit. Grace period will be deducted from game time.

 

A game WILL NOT be delayed because of team members playing on another field in a different game.

-GAME TIMES:

  1. A game is five (5) full innings or sixty (60) minutes, whichever occurs first.
  2. If a game is called due to rain or weather after four (4) innings have been completed (3 ½ innings if the home team is ahead, the game is official and will not be made up.
  3. Each player will have a one and one count for each turn at kick.
  4. ISP follows the international tie-breaking rule: the last kicker of the previous inning will start the new inning at second base. The game will continue until one team out scores the other. All extra inning games will start with a full count on Kickers.
  5. The Park Director will announce any game cancellations.

-TEAM PLAYERS REQUIREMENT:

COED LEAGUES:

  1. Teams must start with at least 8 (eight) players, four men and four women. The maximum number of players for defense is 10. Teams can have up to 20 (twenty) players on a roster.
  2. If there are 9 players, an out will be counted for the 10th position.
  3. With 9 players you must have a combination of 5 & 4.
  4. Kickers must be the same number of men and women and must alternate positions, male, female, male, female, etc.

             POSITIONING:

            1. With the field split down the middle, there must be one male and one female on each side of the field.

            2. Pitcher and catcher must be a male/female combinations. All other ASA rules apply.

-PITCHING/CATCHING:

  1. No bouncies. A pitch that is higher than one foot at the plate, and called as such, results in a ball. Any pitch that bounces excessively high or that is thrown and is called as such, results in a ball.
  2. The pitcher must stay behind the pitching strip until the ball is kicked. Failure to abide by this rule results in a ball.
  3. No player may field in front of the pitcher other than the catcher, and no player may advance forward the 1st-3rd base diagonal until the ball is kicked. Failure to abide by this rule results in a ball.
  4. The catcher must field directly behind the kicker and may not cross home plate nor be positioned forward of the kicker before the ball is kicked. Failure to abide by this rule results in a ball.
  5. The strike zone extends to 1 foot on either side of home plate, and 1 foot high. Any pitch outside that area as deemed by the referee is a ball.

-KICKING:

  1. All kicks must be made by foot.
  2. All kicks must occur at or behind home plate. A kick in front of home plate is called a foul.
  3. Bunting is allowed.

-RUNNING:

  1. Runners must stay within the base line. Fielders must stay out of the base line. Fielders trying to make an out on base may have their foot on base, but must lean out of the baseline. Runners hindered by any fielder within the base line shall be safe at the base to which they are running.
  2. Neither leading off base, nor stealing a base is allowed. A runner off of his/her base when the ball is kicked is out.
  3. Hitting a runners neck or head with the ball is not allowed. Any runner so hit is safe and advances one (1) base beyond the one originally running toward when the ball was thrown. If the runner intentionally uses the head or neck to block the ball, and is so called by the referee, the runner is out.
  4. All ties will go to the runner. Runners may overrun first base.

-STRIKES:

  1. A count of three (3) strikes constitutes an out.
  2. A strike is:

a.        A pitch within the strike zone either not kicked, or else missed by the kicker.

-BALLS:

  1. A count of four (4) balls advances the kicker to first base.
  2. A ball is:

a.        A pitch outside of the strike zone as judged by the referee.

b.       An illegal bouncy

c.        Any fielder or pitcher advancing on home plate before the ball is kicked.

d.       Any catcher crossing home plate before the kicker or failing to field behind the kicker.

-FOULS:

  1. A count of four (4) fouls constitutes an out.
  2. A foul is:

a.        A kick landing out of bounds;

b.       A kick landing in bounds, but traveling out of bounds on its own at any time before reaching first or third base. (Any ball touched by an in-bounds fielder is automatically in play.)

c.        A kick in front of home plate.

d.       A kickball kicked more than once in foul terrority or stopped by the kicker in foul territory.

-OUTS:

  1. A count of three (3) outs by a team completes the team’s half of the inning.
  2. An out is:

a.        A count of three (3) strikes or four (4) fouls;

b.       A runner touched by the ball or who touches the ball an ANY time while not on base while the ball is in play;

c.        Any kicked ball (fair or foul) that is caught;

d.       A ball tag on abase to which a runner is forced to run.

e.        A runner off of his/her base when the ball is kicked.

-RUN RULES:

The game will be called if:

  1. A team leads by 30 runs after 3 innings/ 20 runs after 4 innings/ 10 runs after 5 innings.
  2. There is a 15 run limit per inning. After the 15th run is scored, the inning will end and the opposing team will kick. If a team leads by more than 15 runs with less than 15 minutes left on the clock, the game will be called.

 

-FIRST BASE:

For safety reasons I.S.P. will go to a 2 (two) first base system. The runner must tag the orange (outside) bag when there is a play being made at first base or the runner will be ruled out. This is an appeal play & will not be called unless an appeal is made to the umpire.

-KICKING RULE:

In order to keep games running on time, Kickers will come to the plate with a one ball and one strike count. There is no extra foul rule.

-FOUL BALL ON STRIKE THREE RULE:

The kicker is out if after two strikes he/she kicks a foul ball. Ball is alive if caught in foul territory then advancement of base runners is permitted.

-SHOES:

NO METAL SPIKES ARE TO BE WORN IN LEAGUE OR TOURNAMENT PLAY. A player wearing metal spikes will be ejected by the umpire and given a one game suspension. NO WARNINGS WILL BE GIVEN!

-EJECTION RULE:

The Park Director and/or umpires reserve the right to eject a player from a game or the complex at any time if deemed necessary.

  1. Player or Manager ejected from a game for misconduct will be subject to the following penalties:
    First ejection - One (1) game suspension from the next game with that team, either league or tournament play, at the park.
  2. Second ejection - Fourteen (14) days suspension from all league and tournament play with any team at the park.
  3. Third ejection - Thirty (30) days suspension from all league and tournament play with any team at the park.
     Notice of the above suspensions will not be given to the player or manager.
  4. If a suspended player participates in a game during suspension, the player will be suspended for one year and the team will forfeit that game. In addition, the team may be subject to a one-year suspension from league and tournament play at the park without a refund.
  5. Any person making physical contact with the intent to bring harm to an umpire, park employee, or Park Director will be asked to leave the park and will be suspended for a period of one year from the time of the incident. In addition, if conditions warrant, criminal charges will be brought against said person.
  6. FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!  Any fighting in a game will result in a suspension from the park.
  7. A player will be ejected if he/she is found with alcohol in a can or bottle. The game will not be forfeited but his/her kicking spot will be an automatic out.

 

IV. PROTESTS:

No “judgment” call can be protested.  Protests are considered valid with regard to player eligibility and rule interpretations only.

Protests concerning player eligibility must be made to the umpire before the game has been completed. You must submit the name the player(s) in question with a $50.00 protest fee per player protested.  The protest will be ruled on by the Park Director.  For protests involving ineligible player(s), the team in question must have a valid roster on file in the park office.  Managers should also make sure team members have proof of positive identification with them at all times.  IF A PLAYER IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION, ANY PROTEST AGAINST HIM/HER WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY UPHELD.

For a valid rule interpretation protest, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Any protest must be announced verbally to the umpire when the contested action occurs and BEFORE the next pitch.
  2. If a protest occurs, the umpire must inform the park director and he will rule on the protest immediately.
  3. A $50.00 fee must accompany the protest. 

Indianapolis Sports Park reserves the right to make all rulings on situations that are not particularly covered in these rules and regulations.
